Since we had so many snow days the past week, the deadline for our "This I Believe" projects was extended into this week. Given time to reflect on the project as a whole and all of the work that went into it, I have developed a new appreciation for my classmates and the work ethic required for a class as demanding as AP Lit. & Comp. Accompanying my newly found appreciation was a great sense of enlightenment. I learned a lot about each and every one of my classmates which was actually quite refreshing. It was nice to know that many of us trusted each other with some of the things that are sometimes very hard to admit or even speak about.
One thing I really noticed while watching many of my classmates' videos was immense enthusiasm, passion, and emotion. Those three things really caught my eye. The success of the project wasn't really judged based on the video itself or even the story or message it was centered around. What made each individual project interesting and successful were the feelings behind that. I focused less on the "what?" and "how?" and a whole lot more on the "why?" I think that it's really important to understand the motives of each and every student to better appreciate the video they are producing. And, honestly, it is much more entertaining to watch/listen to someone do/speak of something they love. The best projects were the most REAL projects, the projects that truly portrayed the emotions of the speaker and exuded a sense of authenticity that no one else could replicate.
As a result of this project I have created a whole new belief. I believe that excitement is necessary in all things. Only excitement can make the unbearable bearable. Only excitement can entice the most boring soles, and encourage them to become enthralled along with you.
