Allie as a reader, Allie as a writer.
Yes, Allie is a reader! As a young girl, Allie began to read with her parents before bed. She started off with audio books like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and practicing Zoo-phonics to assist her growth in alphabet usage. However, as she grew older, she began to read for please like most people do. Allie believes that people read to gain insight and experiences through connections they make with characters and the plot of the stories they read. People read to learn something and to obtain information. For Allie, becoming a good reader took the same thing as becoming talented in anything did, practice. The more she read, the better she became at reading, identifying certain characteristics of a story, and appreciating the information she got from that story. Reading is always easier for her when she is reading a book that she is genuinely interested in. Allie finds reading to also be much easier when she reads slowly to ensure that she is truly absorbing the information on the page. One of the hardest aspects of reading for Allie is when she reads too fast it becomes harder for her to understand what she has read; she often has to go back and re-read text that she has already read in order to fully comprehend the meaning. For Allie, choosing a good book is not necessarily about the plot or the genre, which some may find strange. She tends to look for novels by authors whom she has enjoyed in the past regardless of the genre or story line. However, when picking a book to read, she makes sure it promises a true story line instead of a bland and pointless plot. Allie reads quite often on her own time. She finds great pleasure through sharing experiences with characters she is introduced to in the stories she reads, and she always feels a sense of accomplishment yet sadness when she finishes a good book. In general, Allie really enjoys to read and really identifies with the stories she reads, and puts herself into the story.
Yes, Allie is a writer! Allie learned to write from a very young age through practice in grade school, and through simple things like making lists. She believes that people write to release emotions, energy, and to communicate their thoughts in a way that's simpler than speaking. She believes that there is a beauty and power present in the use of words, and sometimes writing is a great way to express things you otherwise cannot find a way to express. Allie is very aware of grammar, tone, and vocabulary when she reads. In order to write well or even to write at all, she believes you must have a very good grasp and knowledge of proper grammar and punctuation. Allie enjoys writing pieces that reflect a deeper way of thinking about something general. She likes to think outside of the box and always ask questions when she is writing. Her ideas come from her mood on a current day, current events, or even music. Anything that can affect her attitude towards the day can greatly influence where her ideas flow from while she is writing. Allie prefers when her audiences respond to her writings in a very blunt manner. If a reader didn't understand a certain part of her writing or was bored with a certain aspect of her story, she loves to be told so she can fix her mistakes. Allie hates to leave any facets of her pieces unclear or uninteresting. Allie writes on occasion at home when she feels inspired to do so; she certainly does not write as much as she reads. Allie puts so much of her energy, and well, her, into her writings that she will never leave any piece unsatisfactory. She is very particular when it comes to her work, and she gets a sense of pride from her finished pieces. She connects to her work in a very strong and emotional way.
